New Beginnings and the First Cameras
Season 1 was exciting for us at Eagle Country. As our first season of streaming, it was a time of new beginnings.
When we started we had the nest cam and what we called the remote cam. They were beautiful views.
If you have read about Eagle Country, you know that the original nest tree — which had stood in the pasture for at least 20 years — was blown down by Hurricane Irma in 2017. So, with the opening of Season 1, this was a brand new nest in a different tree that was nearby the downed tree.

Victoria and Nicholas: Life in the Nest
And, to continue with “firsts,” what we thought we knew about eagles…well, we didn’t know much!
Victoria and Nicholas — affectionately known as Vic and Nic — were our resident eagles, were our resident eagles and eventually they laid two eggs and in due time, Dandy and Spur hatched.
Seeing the nuances of nest building, bonding, mating, incubation, and then hatching and feeding up close was all so fascinating!
Dandy and Spur: Early Challenges and Success
It was a difficult first few days for Spur, as Dandy was quite determined to never miss feedings or share…much. However, resilience won the day, and ultimately both Dandy and Spur fledged successfully! Specific dates of egg laying, hatching and fledging can all be found in our Annual Stats on our live cams page.
Side note: Side note: Dandy was “wingercizing” and accidentally missed a landing, fluttered over the side of the nest tree. After being carefully watched and tended to by Victoria and Nicholas on the ground, s/he managed to fly from the ground. A couple days later we found her/him walking down the road at the neighbors! We were relieved! S/he also successfully returned to the nest and all was well in the end.
We were absolutely thrilled with the excitement and learning of that first season, and naturally we were eager to begin Season 2.
